Amy Beckstead is an employment attorney, licensed to practice in both Texas and California. Amy’s practice focuses on assisting employers with federal and state employment law compliance, assisting them with issues that arise from hiring to termination. She also defends employers when they are sued or under investigation by governmental agencies, litigating matters in state and federal court and before various governmental agencies. Amy frequently trains executives, managers, and employees on a variety of topics, including creating an inclusive workplace and preventing discrimination and harassment. A popular speaker, Amy has presented to numerous organizations, including the Association of Corporate Counsel, the Practising Law Institute, and TexasBarCLE. Amy has also been a guest lecturer at the University of Texas School of Law.
Passionate about women’s and children’s issues both locally and globally, Amy founded MAMAs Austin, a networking organization for mother attorneys in Austin. This organization now has over 1000 members in Travis County. Amy has volunteered in Kosovo and Bangladesh for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the National Center for State Courts, focusing on increasing the number of female lawyers and judges in these countries. She also volunteers and serves in leadership positions, along with her two teenagers, with the Young Men’s Service League, Cavaliers Chapter and the Lake Travis National Charity League.
Amy was born and raised on a farm outside of Selden, Kansas. She then attended the University of Kansas School of Law, where she graduated at the top of her class. Amy has been selected as a Top 50 Central/West Texas Super Lawyer by Texas Super Lawyers and has been included on either the Texas Rising Stars list by Super Lawyers or its Texas Super Lawyers list since 2015. She is rated as 10.0 Superb by Avvo and AV-Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell. In 2019-2023, Amy was also chosen by Austin Monthly as a “Top Attorney” in Austin for the labor and employment law category. She was also included in the 2024 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. Amy began practicing employment law in San Diego, California at the global law firm DLA Piper, before moving to Austin in 2009. Prior to forming Beckstead Terry Ditto PLLC in 2014, Amy was an equity partner at DLA Piper.
